I disagree, Actionscript 2.0 is a very functional programming
language. Not long ago were we building component frameworks and full
blown websites/applications with AS2. Yes, everything evolves, but
that still doesn't negate what has worked. The knowledge that
developers presently have based on Actionscript 2.0 is not voided. I'm
sure most developers that coded through out AS2s' Lifecycle, have
developed their own micro frameworks that can still be recycled.
Seriously though, AS2 allows developing applications much quicker. I
enjoy coding AS3 only because of the Flex framework. If I had to
develop every component from scratch as I did with AS2, I would go
crazy. ActionScript 3.0 can be very wordy - it takes a dozen lines
just create a fully functional UI Object. I do love AS3 and wouldn't
trade it in for AS2, but there is still a need for ActionScript 2.0.
